Eagles Game

After sunday night's game last week against the Falcons where Michael Vick suffered a concussion in the third quarter, the Eagles are coming back home for the home opener. Vick was cleared to play by doctors but things just did not seem right for Vick. This was an important game against a divisional rivalry at home and the Eagles just did not perform. The whole offence seemed out of sync. It looked as if only young running back Lesean McCoy was the only who showed up to play for the Eagles. Not only did we lose but  Michael Vick also suffered another injury in the game. Michael Vick received a hit from a Giants defensive lineman and supposedly broke his right hand. Vick did not return into the game. Later x-rays showed that it is not broken but has a deep bone bruise and bone contusion. Vick later spoke out about the refs not treating him like the other quarterbacks in the league. However even though suffering two injuries Michael Vick is expected to start this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Michael Vick's Return

After being drafted first overall in the 2001 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick finally is making his return to the Atlanta dome as a starting quarterback for another team. Upon being drafted the young football player made history by being the first black quarterback ever selected first pick overall in the NFL draft. Michael Vick played for the Falcons for six seasons before and during that time was rewarded with a contract extension worth 130 million dollars making him the highest paid player at the time. Only to lose it all when, in April 2007 Vick pleaded guilty to be involved in illegal dogfighting and served 21 months in prison. After Vick was released he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009 as a back up to McNabb. After Donovan McNabb was sent to the Washington Redskins, young quarterback Kevin Kolb was appointed the starting position. Kolb's new position did not last long after going down with a concussion in the 2010 season opener against the Greenbay Packers. Michael Vick came out after halftime and turned the game around even though they lost 20 to 27. After Vick's performances he was awarded the starting job in Philly and then received the franchise tag, which was 16 million for one year. However, Michael Vick has recently signed a new deal awarding him 100 million dollars for a six year extension. Hopefully Vick can stay healthy throughout the year and have a great return to atlanta.

Rookie NFL Debuts

Welcome to the NFL rookies. Surprisingly after the long lockout that lasted 127 days several rookies still received starting positions for week one of the NFL season. After having a shorten training camp these rookies not only played their way on the roster but also fought their way into starting jobs. Among the several rookies that played on opening day no other rookie had such a large impact on their team then quarterback Cam Newton. Drafted number one overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, he played above expectations. Although the Panthers lost Newton threw for 422 yards, 2 touchdowns, and had a passer rating of 110.4. Von Miller was selected second overall in the 2010 draft by the Denver Broncos. A number of people criticized the Broncos for taking the young linebacker so early in the draft, but on Monday night Miller had a forced fumble and showed why he was picked. Patrick Peterson selected fifth overall in the draft by the Arizona Cardinals had an impressive debut. The young cornerback showed his versatility by playing cornerback and special teams as a punt returner. Peterson showed his athleticism by returning a punt 89 yards for a touchdown to help his team win. Rookie JJ Watt had a nice fumble recovery for his team the Houston Texans and help secure a win for his team for week one.

Week One Injuries

After only the first week in the NFL season the player injuries are already starting to pile up. No team suffered worse then the St. Lewis Rams. The Rams lost their power house running back Steven Jackson to a strained quad and is expected to miss next game against the Giants. The Rams also lost wide receiver Danny Amendola to a dislocated elbow, he is expected to miss a few weeks. The Kanas City Chiefs lost their young star safety Eric Berry to a torn ACL, he is out for the season. Eric Berry was the Chiefs leading defensive player in the 2010 season. The Carolina Panthers were thrilled to see their rookie quarterback do so  well in his NFL debut but lost linebacker Jon Beason during the process. Jon Beason will miss the rest of the 2011 season with a torn Achilles tendon. The San Diego Chargers will lose their kicker for the rest of the 2011 NFL season. Reports show kicker Nate Kaeding tore his ACL during sundays game against the Vikings. The Indianapolis Colts lost starting quarterback Peyton Manning due to several neck surgeries during the off season. The Colts are already struggling without Manning by getting crushed in their divisional show down against the Houston Texans. The Jacksonville Jaguars lost their star tight end Marcedes Lewis to a strained calf. Reports say he will not miss long term.

AP All Day

Top news in the National Football League today is Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson agreed to a contract extension. The Minnesota player is said to make about 100 million dollars over the next seven years and about 36 million guaranteed. It didn't take long for the organization to reach a deal with the number one draft pick for fantasy football. Adrian Peterson received a extension just several days after the Vikings re-signed linebacker Chad Greenway. Also in other news Saints starting wide receiver Marques Colston is expected to be out for four weeks with a broken collarbone. Colston who played against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night had six catches for 81 yards and a lost fumble. The Packers went on to beat the Saints 42-34. This is a server lost for the New Orleans Saints because he is a great go to receiver and New Orleans number one wide out. Although losing Marques Colston can really hurt the Saints he is only predicted to miss four weeks and they are still said to be a Superbowl contending team.
